The palate is very well balanced, very fine tannins and superb tension, the acidity lending this great poise and freshness.
Good grip on the finish, this is an outstanding Pape-Clement. Tasted March Deep garnet in color, the Pape Clement comes wafting sensuously from the glass with fragrant notions of dried roses, Chinese five spice and sandalwood over a core of kirsch, warm cassis and plum preserves plus a touch of cedar chest.
Medium to full-bodied, the palate is finely crafted with a firm line of ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness supporting the perfumed fruit through the incredibly long finish.
Intense blueberry nose with great precision and expression. Full and vibrant on the palate with a minty note. Wonderful structure. Firm but ripe tannins and very long.
Needs time to soften. Great potential. Try in Very chewy, with wonderful blueberry and mineral character.
Hints of mint too. Full and super classy. Love the texture of the tannins. Hyper-refined in texture. Very dark with even a hint of brown.
Direct and leathery on the nose. Then very sweet - almost right-bank sweetness - but then it returns to acidity and fine tannin. A dramatic even if not-that-comfortable wine.
Almost too drying on the finish but it works in the end. Slightly tarry finish. Not the most succulent. Owner Bernard Magrez has made serious investments here since the late 's and recent vintages have been outstanding thanks to extremely low yields, labour-intensive sorting of grapes and modern wine-making techniques.
There is a lot of oak to be absorbed on the nose, although there appears to be plenty of brambly dark berry fruit to soak it up. It is slightly broody compared to the last year and will hopefully open up after bottling.
The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, plump, ripe tannins and crisp acidity. It is harmonious and focused, good volume here, with a strict finish that displays good tension, although there is a slight dryness coming through on the aftertaste.
Tasted April This is rich and decadent with lots of wet earth, tobacco, berries and hints of cedar. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a long, long finish.
Better in This is already a gorgeous wine with spices, berries, dark chocolate and walnuts. Full body, soft and silky.
Better than The Pape Clement is one of racier, more voluptuous wines of the year. Deep, supple and flamboyant, the is laced with expressive dark stone fruit, game, cured meats and dried flowers.
This is one of the more extroverted wines of the year. It should drink well with minimal cellaring and drink well to age This is another strong from proprietor Bernard Magrez and Michel Rolland.
Very intense dark purplish crimson. Super-clean refreshing-but-ripe black fruit aromas. Sweet palate entry and then rather refreshing and muscular.
For the moment it's all ripe sweetness but it has the constitution for giving immense pleasure. All the constituents are in the right balance and the finish is most refreshing.
Deep purple in the glass. The nose is ripe and rich with blackcurrant fruit, coconut, and nutmeg. It is certainly a wine destined for a long future.
Drink The palate is full-bodied and dense in the mouth, the oak nicely integrated here and the acidity well judged. Tasted four or five times and never to be under-estimated.
Intense blackberry and blueberry aromas as well as mushroom undertones. Violets, too. Sweet tobacco. Full-bodied and layered with polished tannins.
Very long and beautiful. Give it two or three years to show what it has but already a beauty. This shows finesse and class of the vintage with pure blackberry and currant character.
Full body, fine tannins and a beautiful finish. Dark, sumptuous and creamy, it exudes class. Black cherry, mocha, spice, espresso, menthol and new leather are all pushed forward in a spherical, rich wine that captivates all the senses.
As always, this is an overt style, but the purity of the fruit comes through nicely now that the oak has started to integrate.
There is plenty of the Magrez trademark richness, but done in a slightly more restrained style than in the past. This is a gorgeous wine by any measure.
